Applesauce Cake Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 cups applesauce

  • 1/4 cup margarine

  • 1 cup brown sugar

  • 2 large eggs

  • 2 cups flour

  • 2 teaspoons baking soda

  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice

  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup coarsely chopped walnuts

  • 1 cup chopped dates and raisins

  • 3 ounces cream cheese

  • 1 tablespoon butter

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  • 1 cup powdered sugar

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Heat the apple sauce and the margarine in a small saucepan over medium heat until the margarine is melted and the mixture is hot.

  2. Cream the brown sugar and the eggs. Sift together all of the dry ingredients.

  3. Stir everything together and bake in a greased 9×13 pan or Bundt pan. Bake for 45 minutes.

  4. To make the frosting, mix together the cream cheese, butter, vanilla, and powdered sugar. Once the cake is cool, spread the frosting evenly over the top.
